Purpose of the Role

Located in beautiful Newburyport Massachusetts, Boston Conveyor and Automation (BCA) has brought together a very experienced and successful team to focus on the automation of sanitary applications in the food manufacturing and life science industries.  BCA is a Fanuc Authorized System Integrator, and we are in need of a Senior Robotic Engineer to lead our robotic application within automation projects.

One of the keys to success at BCA is our members’ willingness to collaborate within interdisciplinary teams. Robotics engineers work closely with Mechanical, Electrical and Controls engineers throughout an automation project to ensure that the system will be integrated effectively, efficiently, and meet the customer’s requirements. Depending on the candidate’s skill set, they may be asked to assist in other departments when necessary.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    Project Support

    • Work with sales, application engineers and potential customers during the quoting process to determine optimal solutions for adding automat to their existing lines or brand-new applications.
    • Prepare equipment line integration proposals and sales quotation data.
    • Conceive and execute R&D and Proof-of-Concept testing for robotic processes and end of arm tooling efficacy.
    • Develop bills of materials and robot configurations for applications.
    • Develop documentation and schematics as required for timely completion of projects.
    • Create product functional specifications, equipment manuals and training manuals.
    • Collaborate in design/engineer of pneumatic and mechanical systems/tooling to meet application requirements.

    In-house Execution

    • Execute robotic simulations using Fanuc RoboGuide
    • Develop robot programs for picking picking, packing, palletizing and product manipulation applications using Fanuc software including: HandlingTool, PalletTool, iRPickTool, and iRVision
    • Develop, test and implement software for various systems and equipment (e.g. vision systems and sensors).
    • Support system setup, integration, debug and testing efforts.

    Installation and Startup Support

    • Provide support for equipment set up debugging and commissioning of equipment at customer facilities. Identify, understand and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and software issues.
    • Train customers in the use and maintenance of their systems.
    • Perform preventive or corrective maintenance on robotic systems and components.

    Technical Skills & Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in applicable discipline or equivalent experience
    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the development of automated systems, robotic simulation, programming, schematics, system integration, product/material handling equipment, packaging and conveyor systems.
    • Robot Simulation Software (Fanuc RoboGuide / iRpicktool)
    • Vision Systems
    • Programming (Fanuc Robotics)
    • Pneumatics
    • Proficient in MS Office products
    • Knowledge of industry codes and standards
    • Ability to travel up to 20-25%; sometimes being away for one to two weeks at a time.

    Desirable

    • Staulbi robot programming experience
    • PLC programming experience (Rockwell safety PLCs)
    • HMI programming
    • Experience with Risk Assessments of robotic systems
    • Experience with motor drives and servo motor control
    • Electrical design and basic ACAD schematic drawing experience
